This is the Radio Boston rundown for Jan. 11. Tiziana Dearing is our host.
- Over the next couple of weeks, Greater Boston area college students will be returning to campuses. Some schools are starting the semester with remote learning, while others are starting with in-person classes and using a variety of safety protocols to help navigate the current surge in cases. We check in with Dr. Davidson Hamer, infectious diseases physician at Boston Medical Center, professor of infectious diseases at Boston University and a member of the university's COVID-19 protocol task force, about what goes into these decisions and his thoughts on this latest chapter of the pandemic.
- Governor Baker has ordered 26 million rapid tests and deployed 500 National Guard troops to Massachusetts hospitals as case counts and hospitalizations continue to skyrocket due to omicron's free-ranging spread. We take listener calls and questions with Dr. Shira Doron, attending physician and Hospital Epidemiologist at Tufts Medical Center, and Associate Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, and Dr. Eric Dickson, president and CEO of UMass Memorial Health, based in Central Massachusetts.
